Alexandria is split: Old Town is federal historic, the rest is mostly post-war single families and condos. Each side needs a different install approach.
Alexandria splits into Old Town and the rest. Old Town is federal historic — brick rowhomes from the 1700s and 1800s, narrow streets, strict preservation rules. Most Old Town installs use Lutron RA3 and Bluesound (the housing stock and clientele carry it). North Ridge, Rosemont, and Beverley Hills are post-war single families — Lutron Caséta + Sonos is more typical there.
Old Town Alexandria's historic district has explicit rules on exterior modifications — visible cameras, antennas, and dishes need Board of Architectural Review approval. We design installs that don't require BAR approval: indoor-facing window cameras, attic-mounted antennas, hidden mesh.
The mix shifts by city — what's most-requested here reflects Alexandria's housing stock and demographics.
SWAT A/V is based at 14124 Stonecutter Dr in North Potomac. Most Alexandria, VA consultations happen the same day or next morning. Texts to Rick are typically answered in minutes.
Rick is still in the field on most jobs. The same crew that finishes the work is the crew that started it. Twenty-two years, 10,000+ DMV installs, the same approach.

Yes — we've installed in Old Town for two decades. We know the BAR rules and design installs that don't trigger approval requirements: no visible exterior cameras, no rooftop changes, interior work only where possible.
Yes — RA3 is the default in Old Town. The 1700s-1800s federal homes are sophisticated enough to carry the wiring requirements and the homeowners expect the scene control depth RA3 provides.
Yes — Bluesound is well-matched to Old Town's audiophile-leaning audience. We use it for high-resolution multi-room audio in homes where the listening room is dedicated. Sonos for the more casual setups.
Yes — both are friendly install environments. Post-war single families with conventional construction. Most installs are same-week. We typically run Lutron Caséta and Sonos for these homes — right-sized for the housing stock.
Verizon Fios covers most of Alexandria. AT&T Fiber is expanding into Old Town. Cox provides cable backup. For Old Town homes with old service entries, we often coordinate with Verizon to upgrade the service drop during install.
